Bull elk in rut

  1. Oh my how nice. Thank you so much. I hope I didn't anthropomorphize my little story too much but it was real based on what I saw. #6 tried too hard and hopelessly. I understand why the NPS did what it did to preserve his life and protect the public but still....

  3. Yes, it's OK with me to link it, though the image itself is linked from my Flickr account. See if it works and let me know; if not you can swipe the whole photo as long as I get the by-line if you post it.

  4. We avoided run-ins once or twice with that big old bully while camping at Mammoth--it was always a bit of an adventure to walk from the campground down to the Boiling River when he was around during the rut!

  5. Hi EcoRover- Thanks for your comment, I'm glad you enjoyed the photogenic Mr. Number Six Elk. They're such bullies, as you say, and such grouches until rut is over, then they become pussycats, like the Boys of Summer up around Canyon, so fat by the end of summer they look pregnant!
I'll get out to the park again in May - counting the days!!
