I'm not an opera goer, but I can say that I've been to a couple.

I share your POV on making entertainment out of racial and ethnic stereotypes. Alcoholism is also not funny. I'm reviewing the film SKINS 2morrow at BITS which touches on alcohol addiction on the reservation.

You've got me curious about the origin of the stereotype in pop culture. I'm reading early westerns (1900-1915), and while ethnic stereotypes are shamelessly played for laughs in them, I can't remember a single instance of that particular one.Ron Scheerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15357501069513854664noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7996986121279323996.post-48647982316133769152011-02-02T01:46:00.218-06:002011-02-02T01:46:00.218-06:00I agree with you too. There is absolutely no need to portray the American Indian in this light or use alcohol addiction to score 'laughs'.merinzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01950053039147788819noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7996986121279323996.post-23934237083562512752011-01-30T19:10:19.663-06:002011-01-30T19:10:19.663-06:00I agree. If I were you, I'd write a letter to the play's producers saying just what you said on this post. Once they realize they're offending paying customers, maybe they'll do something about it.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
